The Joys and Trials of a Great Commission Family: "Lessons Along the Way"

We all know it is an honor to be a part of the Great Commission Church family. Our movement is a place where we have put high value on family, our marriages and our kids. We are blessed to be joined together with other like-minded people who have taught us so much in how to strengthen our marriages and raise our children for Christ.

Our churches have faithfully reminded us that our families are our first disciples, our first priority, and have given pastors, wives and children - solid support and instruction. The fruit shows up in the lives of our kids.

If you were to ask any one of our pastors or wives, what is our most precious thing in the whole world, (besides the Lord) we would each emphatically answer - our children! They are the "apples of our eye." We love them more than we can even describe.

We have each experienced a lot of joy raising them-- watching them learn to walk, to ride a bike, to eat their Cheerios. To run, to read, to play a sport. They are a joy to listen to when they sing or play. All of us remember the funny things they did growing up - or did this last week. Many of us have watched them marry and have children of their own.

Today, in Great Commission, we are full of hope. God has done a marvelous work in the lives of our children. Because of the application of Biblical principles on parenting, there is tremendous fruit in the children who have been raised in this movement.

At the same time, some of us have also experienced the pain and sadness of a child who has turned away. We have grieved over their tragic choices. As a result, some of us have gone through periods of re-examination, of questioning and wondering, "What did we do wrong? Could we have done something better?" Younger parents might wonder, "Wow, if that could happen to my good friends, how can we know for sure it won't happen to us?"

We will hear from those who have walked the path of the Great Commission family. We will learn from those who have suffered as well as those who have had the joy of seeing their children living for Jesus Christ and the Great Commission. We will discover what God taught them in the process--and we will support each other.

We will be taught again what the Scriptures teaches us as parents. There is hope as we travel down this road of parenting together. Our kids are worth fighting for and we will fight together.

At this year's conference for pastors and wives, discover some of these strong lessons learned along the way. It promises to be one of our most memorable and meaningful. Please, don't miss it!
